Stray dog menace hits Tawang

TAWANG, JUN 19:

The menace of stray dogs in the picturesque Tawang town has assumed serious proportions of late forcing the district administration to adopt immediate measures to tackle the problem.

Deputy Commissioner Tawang Sang Phuntsok on Wednesday called a meeting to discuss solutions for the menace where representatives from the Army, ITBP, SSB, HODs and NGOs like Monpa Mimang Tshogpa, Tangyom Tsokpa, EPS, MBPCs, the Humanity Group, TMEs, Secretary Tawang Monastery, AMSU, ATDSU and public leaders attended.

The members present in the meeting unanimously decided to form a core committee to discuss the further course of action. Constitution of committee to seek sponsorship/donations to take care of the dogs, temporary segregation at proposed dairy farm site of Veterinary department near Temilo, Continuation of sterilization and keeping dogs at enclosures for post operation, encouraging people to adopt stray dogs and to erect more enclosures to keep dogs at village and block level were other measures that were decided during the meeting.

The members also decided to channelize the food wastes of the Army and paramilitary outposts, and hotels of the town to feed the dogs. A suggestion was also made to publicize adoption of Tawang breed dogs in other districts of the state.

Earlier, DVO Tawang Dr A Tamin, apprised the house about activities taken up by Veterinary department, Tawang on the ongoing situation relating to the stray dogs.
